What is a Dental Exam and Cleaning?

Dental exams and cleanings are crucial components of your preventative care routine. A dental exam is meant to spot issues with dental and oral health before the problem is allowed to get worse. A dental cleaning is done by a licensed hygienist who works to remove hardened plaque and tartar from your teeth. Together, having regular exams and cleanings will give you a healthier mouth and teeth, as well as improve your overall dental health.

Why do you need a Dental Exam and Cleaning?

It is important to have an exam and cleaning done every six months. These bi-annual appointments are designed to check for dental or oral-related problems that can be easily treated early on. Your exam will involve a check for signs of decay, loose restorations, and an oral cancer screening. The cleaning removes hardened plaque that is impossible to get rid of on your own and that can cause gingivitis and gum disease if left untreated.

What makes you a good candidate for Dental Exams and Cleanings?

Every member of your family should be coming in for routine dental exams and cleanings. For kids, it’s important to start them on a healthy dental care regimen by bringing them into the office as soon as you notice their first baby teeth coming in. If you haven’t been to the dentist in years, it’s never too late to start taking care of your teeth and following a more appropriate preventative care regimen. At Generations Family Dentistry, we offer family-oriented care in a comfortable, professional setting.
