A root canal is needed when the tissue inside the root canal is inflamed or infected. Many patients may have symptoms alerting that there is an issue, but some may not. It is important to attend your regular appointments in our office to ensure your teeth are looking great and free of infection.

If you have been recommended for a root canal, you may wonder how long the procedure is.  Patients can expect or one or two appointments depending on the severity of the infection, each lasting approximately 90 minutes.

The root canal procedure is straightforward, and can help to save your tooth. They are one of the most common procedures done today, and should not be left untreated. It is our priority to always save your natural tooth.

Local anesthesia is used to minimize pain and keep patients relaxed. The infected pulp is removed, and the area is cleaned out thoroughly. Once the area is clean, the space is sealed and filled.

Temporary crowns may be placed over the tooth while you wait for your custom crown to be installed.

Recovery is minimal, and patients may experience some pain a few days after the procedure. This will subside after a few days, and patients can resume to normal activity. Our team will discuss how to care for your root canal to keep the area looking and feeling healthy for years to come.

If you notice any pain or have concerns with your teeth, contact Generations Family Dentistry to schedule your appointment. We will accommodate emergency cases, and ensure you can be seen in our office as soon as possible.
